GIF and Boomerang photo booth
A photo gets looked at, a GIF gets shared. 24 frames in two seconds, your filters, and the guest has it on their phone before leaving the line.
No credit card · no feature kept for a higher tier
GIF or Boomerang: not the same moment
Same burst to start with, two very different edits at the end.
The GIF
The frames loop in order: it tells a small scene. The most forgiving mode, even when nothing spectacular happens.
The Boomerang
Forward, then backward. It needs a clear gesture — a toast, a jump, confetti. On a group standing still, it falls flat.
During the burst, the screen says “Move, we're rolling!” and a ring shows the time left — otherwise guests freeze as if for a photo.
What the booth does
- A 24-frame burst at about 11 frames per second — a little over two seconds of action: enough for a gesture, short enough to keep the line moving.
- A spoken countdown in English, French, Spanish or Dutch, so guests know when to start moving.
- A cue during the burst — “Move, we're rolling!” and a progress ring: nobody freezes, nobody stops too early.
- Your filters applied — black and white, sepia, vivid, warm, cool or glam, set before the edit so they are on the shared file.
- The guest picks the mode, if you want: the start screen offers photo, GIF and Boomerang, and everyone takes the one they like.
- Instant sharing — QR code, e-mail, WhatsApp, or the event's online gallery.
- Webcam, GoPro or tethered Canon EOS — the burst needs no special hardware.
What to plan for
Two real limits, worth knowing before you sell the animation to a client.
An animated file does not print
GIF and Boomerang are for digital sharing. If the package includes prints, keep Photo mode, or let the guest choose.
Lighting matters more than the camera
24 frames in a row reveal the slightest flicker from a fluorescent light. Continuous lighting — a ring light is enough — matters more than the camera.
Why let guests pick their mode
Offering the choice brings people back: after the group photo, they come again for a Boomerang with friends.
Modes are set per event, and can be changed mid-event from the web portal or the mobile app.
Frequently asked questions
What exactly is the difference between a GIF and a Boomerang?
Same burst, two edits. The GIF plays the frames in order and loops: it tells a small scene. The Boomerang plays them forward then backward: it needs a clear gesture to work.
Can you print a GIF or a Boomerang?
No, an animated file has no paper print. These modes are for digital sharing: QR code, e-mail, WhatsApp, the event gallery. Keep Photo mode on if your package includes prints.
Can guests pick the mode themselves?
Yes, if you turn the choice on for the event: the start screen offers the modes you kept and the guest decides. You can also set a single mode for the whole night.
Do I need a DSLR for good GIFs?
No. A webcam, a GoPro or a tethered Canon EOS all work. What matters is not the camera but steady lighting: that is what stops flicker between frames.
Do GIFs work without internet?
Yes. The burst and the edit run offline like everything else, and the QR code still shows: the animation reaches the guest's phone as soon as the booth is back online. How offline works.
Does GIF mode cost extra?
No. GIF and Boomerang are included in every plan, free trial included. No booth feature is kept for a higher tier. See pricing.
